Cultural Prophylactics at the NFO XPO
I spent the weekend with my Boston-based pal Andi Sutton taking public health-style surveys about cultural boundaries, protection, and appropriation at Version Fest 09‘s NFO XPO. This is what we, and some of our test subjects, looked like:

We decided to have this test subject, Kodiak, wear the lab coat.

Andi administers a survey, sitting inappropriately close to the test subject.

This patient’s condition called for the application of a tinfoil hat.

We had a range of safety devices on hand, primarily for our protection as administrators, although occasional subjects were required to lavishly overuse hand sanitizer, wear between one and three facemasks for the duration of the day, or wrap certain body parts in tin foil, vinyl gloves, or plastic wrap.
